Oliver Bierhoff explains Leroy Sane’s attitude change this season
Germany team manager Olivier Bierhoff has said that Leroy Sane has experienced an attitude change since the birth of his daughter which has enhanced his performances on the playing field. The promising attacker was a shock exclusion from the Germany squad for the summer World Cup and he thereafter found himself out-of-favour under Pep Guardiola amid concerns regarding his workrate especially in training.
However, he has since managed to overturn his fortunes with an impressive run of form for club and country and Bierhoff has spoken about the same saying: “I am very happy for him [Sané]. To be honest, I’ve seen some changes with him after the World Cup. That may have something to do with the experience of the [national team] nomination – or even with the birth of his daughter. The birth [of his daughter] certainly has given him another boost, he now also has more seriousness in his game. He has shown us what’s in him. Hopefully this will continue!”
“Sane had been in-and-out of the starting lineup for the Citizens during the early phase of the campaign“ but he has made himself a regular over the past couple of months whereby he has regularly been on the scoresheet. The attacker has netted six goals and contributed a further six assists from the previous seven “starts for the club“ and it remains to be seen whether he can continue the good run of form against Chelsea on the road this weekend.
The German has yet to contribute a goal or an assist against the Blues in any competition and the weekend game could prove a tricky test for him as he would come against the experienced Cesar Azpilicueta. The west London side have lost their previous three meetings with the Citizens and they come into the weekend fixture after a shock 2-1 defeat on the road to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
