POSTPONED LIBERTADORES FINAL MOVED
The Copa Libertadores final match between Boca Juniors and River Plate which was originally scheduled to be played at the El Monumental Stadium in Argentina has been moved out of the country.
The Argentine classic match will now be played at the home of Real Madrid, the Santiago Bernabeu in Spain.
The match which should have held a long time ago have been delayed on more than one occasion due to various issues, most notably the attack on the Boca Juniors team bus which left more than half of the club’s players injured and admitted in the hospital.
Boca forward Carlos Tevezhas also claimed that playing the Copa Libertadores final at the Santiago Bernabéu is embarrassing, slamming those responsible of 'taking away players dreams'.
After both teams played out a bore 2-2 draw in the first-leg at the La Bombonera nearly a month ago, Argentinian football appeared poised for a new dawn, as a historical spectacle was set for the Estadio Monumental Antonio VespucioLiberti in the capital, Buenos Aires.
The fixture was announced by the media as the biggest fixture in the 127-year history of Argentine football as the nation’s two biggest clubs were pitted alongside each other to renew their fierce rivalry within the South American equivalent of the Champions League.
“With global interest, a select group of River Plate fans caused the fixture to be postponed following an attack on the team bus that injured several Boca players“ and left them “admitted at the hospital“.
The Boca fans have expressed their concern and disgruntling concerning the CONMEBOL official’s handling of the team bus attack issue, with some sections of the fans revealing that their players have been forced to play even though they are not fit to play.
FIFA swiftly intervened and announced the fixture would be played outside of the country, as the fans reputation of hooliganism resurfaced once again.
